Audience Detail
Our film opening is targeted at teenage males who aspire to be something, because our protagonist is a male who wants to be a rapper, we feel that a number of teens will be able to relate because many teenagers have a goal and know what they want to be but there may be things that get in the way and our film opening portray's this. We also targeted males, simply because our protagonist is a male. In addition, our subgenre of coming of age is relevant to young adults as the journey is one that involves obstacles which many have to face.
Skills Audit To Date
There are many things we have learnt about the equipment. Firstly, the cap on the Camera must always be closed when you are not filming as this prevents any dust from damaging the lens or any scratches etc. Also, we've learnt that before we begin filming with the Camera, we always have to focus it, getting the best, quality image we can. Also, the use of the Tripod is to keep the Camera steady whilst filming a shot. This also enables us to be able to Tilt and Pan the Camera whilst shooting different shots. You can also expand the Tripod making it taller for high shot angles or lower for low shot angles.
We've learnt many things also about the different types of software. Firstly, Final Cut Pro is used to edit our shots we filmed and bring everything together. We've learnt how to cut different types of shots, add effects such as Fade Away, Sub-Titles etc. Also, we've recently been introduced to Creative Commons Search. This allows us to search sound choices and download it, which later we can add to our film. We've learnt that its very effective and very easy to access, as the access of these sounds make our work much better.
Finally, what we have learnt about our blogging skills is that we can blog things, on particular tasks we have done in and outside the lesson, giving viewers a general idea of what we get up to. During the process of blogging, we've learnt how to upload or final video from Final Cut Pro and any snapshot photos of the group, whilst filming or editing our films.
Institutional Detail
The film company to produce our movie will be revolver as they have worked on many independant films such as Ill Manors and Shank, which have inspired our opening.

Pitch
The Treatment
Brief outline of the entire film
The movie follows a young urban boy, living in east London, who's dream is to become a top rapper, however there are things that get in his way for example, his single parent mum who urges him to go to university and the pressures of being a part of a gang. He records a few lyrics and has an opportunity to show a top mixer what he's got, the mixer is impressed and introduces him to a top quality studio nearby..
Will he finally be able to pursue his dream of being a rapper or will the obstacles become a stumbling block for him?
Opening of the film
The opening credits will be visible on a montage of the boy going through his daily routine. Waking up, having a shower and getting ready for the day, the opening will begin with a close up on the protagonists face with a rising shot to a point where his alarm will wake him up which will trigger the end of the rising shot. This is followed by the use of the techniques learnt in lesson such as, jump cuts, short reverse shot to show him on his laptop listening/watching live shows/ freestyle of the rappers he looks up to, we will then have a shot reverse shot sequence of when his mum hands him some university applications, this will be one of the things represented as the stumbling block, we then see him get ready and go out to throw the application form, we then come across a boy who is seen as the opposite of the protagonist, it then goes into a slow motion shot reverse shot close up of the boys faces to show the clash that they have, when he is out he write a few lyrics, we have a close up on him recording them and sending them to a producer that his friend has recommended. He gets a call back and is introduced to a studio.
Type of sub genre of Teen Drama
Our sub-genre is Coming of age. Film openings from films such as Shank and Ill Manors which illicitly capture the urban atmosphere in their openings have inspired us. In addition to this, teen programmes such as Youngers have influenced the perspective of teen drama that we aim to capture through our opening.

Shot By Shot Remake - Comparing Our Version With The Original Version
Comparison Of The Breakfast Club
When comparing our version of the Breakfast Club to the original version, we had to make changes to certain area's that we couldn't get any access to. As a result, we had to think creatively and try our best to make it match to the original version as best as we could. Furthermore, there were area's we could make similar because of the facilities and environment of our college making it easier for us as most scenes in the original version was in school compound.
For example:
School
Original Version |
Our Version |
.
Car
Original Version |
The car scene is the original versions were all driven by the children's parents introducing each character. This was something we had to alter when doing our own version. This is because we had no access to cars, making it difficult for us to do the scene. On the other hand, we thought creatively and used a toy car to portray the car in the original version.
Our Version |
We managed to get access to the song that was playing over everything in the intro of Breakfast Club. We done the same, playing the exact song over our version, as this again shows the similarities between our version and the original version.
We also did the voice over at the beginning of the scene. We did it the same as the original film version reading of the script. It flowed smoothly over the images, just like in the original version, but unfortunately, we made a slight era halfway through messing up the words a tiny bit, but recovered perfectly and continued as we never made it effect our work.

Love And Basketball Sound Editing
This is our complete edited version of Love and Basketball, where we added sounds and effects to match the original version of the film. We downloaded a song from SoundCloud on Creative Common Search, that we thought sounded like the original version and converted it over on to Final Cut Pro. The song that we found was relevant to the scene and the genre. We added the window sounds when the character was opening and closing the window. This Foley sound amplified the sound of the window.
Creative Commons
The task was to add a music sound track to a clip from a teen movie, the clip we decided to use was 'Love & Basketball', the sound we used had to be Copyright free.
this is because using copyrighted music is illegal, and using it for our own clips is breaking the law.
Creative Commons:
creative commons is a website that we used in order too download Copyright Free music, in order to use it in our clips, Creative Commons has all the music, however it has filtered out the ones that have Copyright, and allows us to download the Copyright Free music.
The search query page allows us to look for a particular track, most likely to redirect us to Soundcloud |
When we search for 'Slow Jams' it shows a number of tracks within that genre, notice how it is only the last clip we can download, this is because it is Copyright free. |
When we downloaded the clip, we used 'MediaHuman Audio Converter', so that it was compatible with Final Cut Pro.
Track converter, a video drive had to be plugged in, in order to import it to Final Cut Pro. |

Partying and Music
Parties and music are the two conventions most conveyed within the movie. Use of foul language hip hop style music and constant partying involving drug use conveys the stereotypical attitude of teenagers within society.
Relationships are portrayed as being disposable and meaningless. This is mainly conveyed via the main character who betrays her 'friends' displaying the disposable nature of the young peoples lives. This supports the materialistic traits which cause the young people to steal.
The young people idolise the celebrities that they steal from, seeking their fame and lifestyles. This highlights the nature of how influential celebrities are to the youth of today.

Explanation of the opening credits
Explanation of opening credits
There are some standards to opening credits, but some minor variations do exist typically when giving more prominence to a more famous person.
Distribution - The company is different from the production company; e.g. 'Distribution Company Name Presents' - Distribution companies are responsible for the marketing of films thus are recognised in the opening credits
Director - (This is optional); e.g. 'A Ridley Scott' - the directors name is usually there as an acknowledgement of their work towards the film. For example, it would state, 'A Martin Scorsese picture'
Top Billing Actors - (Listed in order based upon their personal fame and prominence in the movie); e.g. sometimes a big name with a smaller part can receive top billing. Equal billing is given when two actors are listed at the same time the name on the left is considered the 'slightly' more prominent name unless the name on the right is slightly
Key cast - ('Introducing..' for an actor's first appearance on screen; 'And..' is reversed at the end to showcase a big name actor with a small role, or 'with..' is used to showcase multiple names.

Props
- Toy Cars: to represent the vehicles that the kids arrived to school in
- The Princess' key prop was her phone as it was representative of her spoilt nature and differentiated her from the other characters
- The Criminals' key prop was his black bomber jacket as it made him appear conspicuous and shady
- The Jocks key prop was a sweater which supported his sporty demeanour
Locations
- outside the college (candi)

21 Jump Street
Party & Music
Partying and music are the two conventions portrayed in the teen film 21 Jumps Street. This shows the sort of thing teenagers get up to during their time at college, as you really see their behaviour come out more once they're socialised with their peers. Offensive language and sexual acts are committed really reflecting on how the teenagers act.
Drugs & Alcohol
Drugs and alcohol are another common convention that may be portrayed in teem films. this tells audiences that teens can only be happy through drugs, drinking and partying etc. drug consumerism also makes drugs seem minor and very easy.
Characters
Eric Molson is the cool kid, no one gets in his way, normally chased after my many girls, the big name at high school.
Schmidt is the victim, has no friends and is always bullied, very low confidence but fancies a girl and stumbles every time he has the opportunity to ask a girl out.
Molly Tracey is the pretty, blonde girl that Schmidt fancies, blonde hair which conforms to the stereotype of teens, seen as arrogant through the beginning, and sometimes very sarcastic.

Shot by Shot Remake Task
The Breakfast Club
Our task is to recreate the opening of The Breakfast Club using the screenshots that we have taken and added to our storyline.
In the opening of The Breakfast Club there is a voice over of the protagonist describing the other characters before we see them separately arrive at school. The first character that arrives is 'The Princess' as she enters the scene in a BMW car with her dad. It is evident that she is a daddy's girl and is also wealthy.
The second character that arrives is 'The Brain' as he enters the scene in the car with his mother and little sister. He's the brains of the group and seems very shy and disinterested in school.
The third character that arrives is 'The Athlete' as he enters the scene in a 4x4 car, driven by his dad. The representation of the car shows that he's masculine and clothing suggests he's into sports.
The fourth character is 'The criminal' as he enters the scene walking across the road, not paying any interest to the car that approached him. This shows that he is rebellious and is socially unaware.
Finally, the fifth character is 'The Basketcase' who's seen leaving the car but there is no sign of her parents . This could suggest that she's not loved and possibly neglected.
All the cars driven were all filmed outside the school, whereas the boy walking was seen crossing the road outside the school.

Travelling and arriving
Created a travelling and arriving storyboard. We did a scene on how the character travelled to college using the tube, using different shot types showing his journey.

Superbad
Themes
Partying and Music
Partying and music are the two main conventions portrayed in the teen film Superbad. This shows the sort of thing teenagers get up to during their time at college, as you really see their behaviour come out more once they're socialised with their peers. Offensive language and sexual acts are committed really reflecting on how the teenagers act.
Drugs and Alcohol
The use of drugs in the film is seen to be used more sociably rather than something they would take as individuals. You mostly see this kind of act being done at parties as its a way to get them in the partying mood. Alcohol is a key prop in the film, showing that it is something essential at parties. The use of this means that their behaviour changes, either in a sexual way or violent way.
Characters
Seth's character is funny and very out-going, always up to do something. He has a crush on a girl and is determined to make her his girlfriend, whatever it takes. He tires to do this by impressing her by getting loads of alcohol for her party. His main aim was to get with the girl he was in love with.
Evan's character is shy and least confident out of the bunch. He usually goes against doing things other teenagers would do such as, drinking, smoking or even talking to girls. He also has a crush on a girl. Besides his best friend giving him ideas on how to get with the girl, he goes against it as he believe that a way to a girls heart is to tell her how you really feels.
Fogell's character is more of the nerdy and funny individual in the film. He is the brains in the group, as he helps them get alcohol because of his fake ID he had. He's very shy and not as confident, as he gets put down a lot by Seth, but this changes once he gets this "new identity". His aim was to get with a girl, and that so he did. You can see a change to how he was in the beginning up until the end.
